Membership types

Becoming a Member

One of the unique things about PADI is diversity. We are open to people of varied backgrounds who have a strong affinity for design and not only those who work within the design industry.

Each member type takes into account the current needs and interest of the member within the context of our vision.

Below are the various categories of membership and their requirement

Individual Member

In many Afrikan countries, the governing bodies that support individual designers do not exists – so they have no place to go to, or no support mechanisms to help them drive their design, or add weight to the value of what it is that they do. We want to provide those support mechanisms – there is safety in numbers.

Member Benefits

We offer tools in form or resources, workshops, peer reviews, etc. We also provide support, codes of conduct, and help contextualise the value of design to those that need it. We want professional, and qualified designers to earn an appropriate income relative to the scope of work they do. Part of our goal is to develop, and release rates, scope tools, and supporting material that can be used to communicate the value of design process.  In the course of time, individuals might also see an opportunity for job-hunting here.

Educational/
Institutional Member

Schools determine the future standard of design in Afrika. Schools (through design output and research) – offer the platform to communicate to international audiences (at conferences, and through other international design bodies). Schools can help us (through research) – to better understand the socio, environmental and economic landscapes of Afrika.

Member Benefits

We provide schools a network with which they can benchmark. In addition, we also offer them full Afrikan network (including other schools). We help provide insights into the current relevance of design (curriculum planning). We allso offer tools, workshops, and a platform for international dialogue (through Cumulus, Ico-D and WDO). Not to mention, belonging to a credible organisation such as PADI will give design schools in the continent credibility as well as industrial espionage (to see whether or not what they are teaching is current and relevant).

Corporate/
Agency Members

Company practicing within the design field can also apply to become members of PADI.
